Canada has invited 5,821 Express Entry applicants in January 2025.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited the applicants across three invitation rounds in January.
As part of Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan 2025-2027, the country will welcome 395,000 new permanent residents this year.
IRCC held three draws throughout January to invite Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residency.
The department issued 471 invitations to apply (ITAs) in the first draw, which was held on January 7. Only applicants under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) were invited in this round.
The second draw was held the very next day, in which 1,350 ITAs were issued. This round focused on candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program.
The latest draw, held on January 23, saw 4,000 ITAs issued for candidates looking to move to Canada via the Express Entry pathway. This was also a CEC-focused invitation round.
The following table describes the three January draws in greater detail:
Date | Draw Type | Number of ITAs Issued | Cutoff CRS Score |
January 23 | Canadian Experience Class (CEC) | 4,000 | 527 |
January 8 | Canadian Experience Class (CEC) | 1,350 | 542 |
January 7 | Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) | 471 | 793 |
Table: Summary of Express Entry Draws in 2025
The cutoff CRS score refers to the minimum number of points that applicants need on their profiles to be selected in an invitation round.
For the first draw, applicants needed at least 793 points on their Express Entry profiles to be invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency.
In the second invitation round, candidates with a CRS score of 542 and higher were invited to apply for Canadian PR.
In the latest invitation round, IRCC issued ITAs to candidates who scored 527 or more on their CRS assessment.
Every candidate is assigned a CRS score based on a number of human capital factors. These include:
- Age
- Education
- Work Experience
- Language Abilities, etc.
For each invitation round, IRCC determines a cutoff CRS score. Candidates who meet the score threshold are invited to apply for permanent migration to Canada.
