Immigration to Canada is experiencing its zenith at present. An aging population, low birth rate and lack of adequately skilled local workers has seen a massive rise in the intake of immigrants. As a result, an increasing number of skilled foreign workers are relocating to Canada in order to start a new chapter in their careers and lives.
With immigration to Canada at its pinnacle in recent memory, many applicants find themselves in a dilemma when it comes to choosing their destination in Canada. To make things easier for you, we have compiled a list of the most popular cities in Canada based on newcomers in 2019. Read on below to learn more about the most popular Canadian cities among new immigrants in 2019!
The city with the most newcomers: Charlottetown
Leading the pack is Charlottetown, the capital and largest city of Prince Edward Island. The number of newcomers amounted to 2.4 per cent of the total population of more than 78,000 residents, with Provincial Nominee Programs and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot being major factors behind such a high rate of new overseas arrivals.
Regina a close second
Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan, also had a high rate of newcomers – 2.35 per cent of its 261,000-strong population – again largely thanks to the Provincial Nominee Programs.
Toronto ranks third
The provincial capital of Ontario – Toronto ranked third in the list after welcoming more than 117,000 new immigrants – 1.82 per cent of its population of more than 6 million residents.
Other major Canadian cities to make the list included Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Montreal.
