Priority processing updated for skilled visas to Australia

Australia’s Department of Home Affairs has updated the order of priority processing for permanent and temporary skilled migration visas to Australia.

The Department of Home Affairs updated the processing order for permanent and temporary skilled visas to Australia following directions from Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke.

As part of the update, Employer Sponsored visa (subclass 186) applicants belonging to occupations listed on Australia’s Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) will get the highest priority, with their applications being treated as Priority Category 1.

Applicants for the subclass 186 visa belonging to an Agriculture Sector Occupation will also have their applications processed as Priority Category 1.

Moreover, Global Talent Employer Sponsored program applicants will also qualify for Priority Category 1.

Business Innovation and Investment visa (subclass 188) applicants under the Significant Investor stream will qualify for Priority Category 2, while Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa (subclass 187) applicants will qualify for Priority Category 3.

Applicants who apply for skilled migration to Australia with the subclasses 186, 187 or 494 visas and belong to occupations listed in Australia’s Critical Sector will have their applications processed under Priority Category 4.

Australia’s Critical Sector is determined by the Department of Home Affairs, and includes the following sectors:

  • Aged care;
  • Agriculture;
  • Child care;
  • Disability care;
  • Food processing;
  • Health care; and
  • Tourism and hospitality.

For Australia’s Employer Sponsored Temporary Work (subclass 482) visa, Priority Category 1 will be reserved for applicants belonging to:

  • PMSOL occupations;
  • Global Talent Employer Sponsored Agreement;
  • Global Talent Program; and
  • Agriculture Sector occupations.

Applicants belonging to occupations listed under other Critical Sectors will qualify for Priority Category 2.
