Australia reveals nomination allocations for States and Territories

Australia has announced the migration nomination allocations for its States and Territories in the new Migration Program planning levels for the 2021-22 migration year.

Under the new Migration Program settings, Australian States and Territories will be able to nominate applicants for Australian immigration in the following visas:

  • Skilled – Nominated (subclass 190);
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491); and
  • Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP).

The States and Territories that have been allocated nominations for the 2021-22 migration year in the new Migration Program planning levels include the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), New South Wales (NSW), Victoria (VIC), Queensland (QLD), Northern Territory (NT), Western Australia (WA), South Australia (SA), and Tasmania (TAS).

For all three visa categories, a total of 33,690 visas have been allotted for the States and Territories. A total of 14,400 allocations has been set aside for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190), and 12,430 allocations for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). The Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) received 6,860 nomination allocations.

The number of nominations for the 2021-22 migration year was allocated following consultation with each State and Territory, which you can take a look at in the table below:

When do the States and Territories start accepting applications?

Following the nomination allocations being made available by Australia’s Federal Government, most of the States and Territories have provided information on when the application processing might start.

  • Australian Capital Territory: Applications are open for the subclasses 190 and 491 visas. No announcements made yet on the BIIP visas.

 

  • New South Wales: Eligible skilled occupations lists for the subclasses 190 and 491 visas will be announced in the coming weeks. Nomination criteria for the BIIP applications will also be announced in the next few weeks.

 

  • Victoria: Victoria’s migration program opens for new Registrations of Interest (ROI) on July 7, 2021 for onshore applicants only. No update on BIIP category.

 

  • Queensland: Migration nominations for all visa categories will start from the end of July.

 

  • Northern Territory: Both the skilled nominations as well as the BIIP applications are open to applicants.

 

  • Western Australia: No word yet on the resumption of the skilled nomination visas or the BIIP category.

 

  • South Australia: General Skilled Migration (GSM) and BIIP category will open in the week commencing on July 19, 2021.

 

  • Tasmania: Applications for the skilled visas are closed, while the BIIP category is under review.
