Adelaide Lord Mayor welcomed newly arrived skilled migrants to the city

October 31, 2015 Recently the Right Honourable Lord Mayor, City of Adelaide, Martin Haese, attended an Information Session hosted monthly by Immigration South Australia to welcome newly arrived skilled migrants to the city. The Lord Mayor congratulated the newly arrived skilled migrants nominated by Immigration SA on being granted the visa. This newly arrived migrant group have a mix of skills and occupations, ranging from Geologist, Biomedical Engineer, Civil Engineer, Chief Information Officer, to Management Consultant.

The Lord Mayor said to the group that Adelaide prides itself on being a multicultural city.

Our diversity of cultures makes us a vibrant, welcoming and interesting place – and now you are part of it too. The Lord Mayor went on to say that Adelaide’s migrant population is extremely important.

Migrants’ knowledge, connections, skills and understanding of different cultures can help Adelaide City Council form new overseas partnerships and encourage people to invest in Adelaide and South Australia.

The Lord Mayor also stressed that the council welcomes newly arrived migrants to set up their own business in the city.

There are now 109 programs operating in Adelaide that support entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses, most of these based in the CBD.

Presenters from a range of government agencies also presented in the session which is held monthly, to inform newly arrived skilled migrants about government services and support available to them and their families. Speakers were from Immigration SA, Department of Primary Industries and Regions SA, TAFE SA, and Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

You have so much to offer our city, and we want to help you in any way we can. We are very happy to have you here, said the Lord Mayor.
