A record 4,500 new applicants under the Canadian Express Entry system have been invited to apply for permanent residency by the Government of Canada.
Held on February 19, this latest draw was the largest yet in terms of candidates being invited to apply for permanent residency in the country.
Candidates under the Express Entry system – which includes the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class – required 470 points to qualify for an invitation to apply for permanent residency in Canada under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) in this latest invitation round.
The CRS system considers various factors such as age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French to determine a score for each applicant.
Candidates who score below the CRS requirement still get the chance to increase their total points tally and try again for permanent immigration to Canada.
The most valuable of these additional chances come in the form of a provincial nomination from a State or Territory Government. A provincial nomination awards the applicant an extra 600 CRS points, which effectively guarantees an invitation to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
After four draws in 2020, 14,800 applicants have already been issued invitations to apply for permanent residency in Canada by the Canadian Government.
