In an unprecedented fashion, the Canadian Parliament has announced plans to welcome more than 1 million new immigrants within the next three years.
The new plan will see as many as 1,080,000 new immigrants gain residency in Canada from 2019 to 2021.
Moreover, the new immigrants will be given permanent resident status in the country.
Ahmed Hussen, the Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC), lauded the efforts of immigrants for making Canada the healthy and vibrant country we all know and love.
He also thanked immigrants and their descendants for their immeasurable contributions to Canada and stressed the fact that any future success depends on continuing to ensure new immigrants are welcomed and well-integrated in the Canadian way of life.
This plan to welcome new immigrants is key to boosting the already strong Canadian economy by growing its labour force, while an influx of young migrants will also help tackle the challenges of Canada's aging population and declining birth rate.
According to the Canadian Parliament's Annual Report on Immigration, one in five Canadian residents was born overseas, and more than 6 million new immigrants have arrived in Canada since 1990.
