Ontario invited more than 1000 Express Entry candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to apply for skilled migration to Canada.
The invitations were issued over two draws held on July 20 under the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream for candidates in targeted occupations.
The provincial government of Ontario invited 902 candidates from tech occupations and 159 candidates from healthcare professions to apply for permanent Canadian skilled migration.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score thresholds for candidates selected in these invitation rounds ranged between 458 – 462 points.
The results of these draws were in line with the recently introduced category-based selection rounds of Express Entry invitations, with 2,000 healthcare professionals and 500 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) candidates being issued invitations to apply (ITAs) for Canadian immigration so far this summer.
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) were established as a means of shared immigration responsibilities between Canada’s federal and provincial governments.
PNPs allow Canadian provincial governments greater control in selecting economic immigrants who settle in a nominating province.
Provincial governments select skilled candidates who are best suited to fill labour gaps in the province, as they can integrate easily in the province, contribute to the economy and are the likeliest to stay in the province and succeed.
Express Entry candidates nominated by a province in a PNP draw receive an additional 600 points on top of their profile CRS score, which virtually guarantees an ITA for Canadian permanent residence.
Nominated applicants can then apply to the federal government for Canadian immigration, and, if successful in their application, can obtain Canadian PR.
Express Entry is Canada’s application management system for skilled migrants looking to apply for permanent skilled migration to Canada.
It was established in 2015 and helps Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to target suitable skilled migrants for Canadian immigration.
Candidates who submit their profiles in the Express Entry pool are awarded points based on a number of human capital factors, such as age, education, work experience and English proficiency.
The highest scoring candidates in each invitation round are then selected and invited to apply for Canadian immigration by IRCC.
