British Columbia saw the largest number of registrants for skilled migration to Canada and the most provincial nominations issued in a single year in 2019, according to the BC PNP Statistical Report for 2019.
The report shows that BC saw a significant jump from 2018 in the number of skilled workers moving to Canada via the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP).
Under the BC PNP, the Skills Immigration (SI) stream, which is a pathway designed for foreign workers to apply for permanent residence in Canada, was by far the most popular among migration applicants, with 99 per cent of all PR recipients travelling to Canada through this stream.
A total of 6,551 applicants were able to successfully obtain permanent residence in Canada with a provincial nomination from British Columbia under the SI stream of the BC PNP.
Moreover, skilled workers were also able to benefit from higher salaries in 2019.
The report also shows that 2019 was a big year for the Tech Pilot, which is an immigration program designed by the BC provincial government to attract skilled tech workers to the Canadian province and turn it into a hub for emerging innovative technologies.
A total of 1,509 applicants under the Tech Pilot program were invited to apply for Canadian immigration by the provincial government of BC as permanent residents.
